Picture 5

This is a picture of the Upper Lake inlet taken on 7/13/04. The natural flow of water into Birchwood Lakes is from Medford Lakes Boro. There is a creek, normally about 10 feet wide and a foot deep, that enters the Upper Lake. With the rain runoff and the water discharged from lakes whose dams failed in Medford Lakes Boro, the flow became a river that flattened the trees shown on the left side of this picture. The width of this destruction is about 250 feet. The flow was so great that the roadbed was washed into Birchwood's Upper Lake. This was one of the contributing sources of the 65,000+ documented cubic yards of silt deposited on BLCC lake bottoms.
