Picture 7B Upper Lake Dam holds

In this picture of the Upper Lake dam taken on the morning after the flood, you can see the water (in the distance, below the people) going over the spillway. In the foreground, you can see the water going over the bulkhead between the spillway structure and the lake level box (extreme lower left of picture). Looking carefully, you can see the bulkhead (right edge of the picture, half way up) on the lake side of the spillway. Neither bulkheads failed but were (in later weeks) torn out by machine to drain the lake completely. Looking at the house on the left, you can see that the Lower Lake is being kept at an unusually high level (flooding the dock on the property on the left) so as to store additional water from going down stream.
