In the 1950's, developer Ed Meyer converted a cranberry bog into a residential neighborhood with three lakes. The surface area of the lakes is 26 acres. 192 home sites plus community areas were created.

The community areas include a beautiful sand beach with picnic tables, benches, a fire pit, swings & slides, a softball field, a tennis court, a horseshoe court, a basketball court and a community Clubhouse

with a modern kitchen, large stone fireplace, two bathrooms and a storage room. The Clubhouse is heated and air conditioned. The Clubhouse was originally constructed in 1961. It was renovated in 2004.

Members and outsiders sponsored by a member, can reserve the Clubhouse for dinners, reunions, wedding receptions, family gatherings, etc.

The Birchwood Lakes Colony Club is celebrating over 55 years of service to the community. Founded in April 1954, BLCC has maintained a neighborhood scheme of creating a friendly,

family oriented residential section in the Pinelands of South Jersey. The BLCC has Officers and Directors who are volunteers. Members of BLCC also volunteer to be on committees

and to come out twice a year to help maintain the lakes, grounds and Clubhouse.

Board meetings are held monthly on the second Monday at 7:30 PM in the Clubhouse

and are open to all members who are encouraged to attend.

Residents of Birchwood Lakes who are not members of the Birchwood Lakes Colony Club are encouraged to attend

one of these Board meetings where they can get information about membership. Approximately 90% of the residents are members.
